How many photobiomodulation sessions per week?

The frequency of treatments determineshow effective PBM is for hair. Once a week is not enough; this has been proven by research.
Why is repeated treatment necessary?
- Acceleration of cellular metabolism: without consistency, the effects diminish
- Gradual increase in FSH: the more stimulation provided, the better the follicle responds
- Long-lasting inhibition of local DHT: hormones are rapidly recirculated
- Gradual prolongation of the anagen phase: this is a cumulative process
Optimal Treatment Protocol
At least 3 times a week
- Duration: 10 to 15 minutes per session
- Minimum duration: 12 consecutive weeks
- Then twice a week for maintenance
- Visible results: often after 8–10 weeks
For best results: 5 times a week
- Duration: 15 to 20 minutes per session
- Minimum duration: 8 weeks
- Then 3 times a week for maintenance
- Notable results: as early as the 6th week
Common mistakes to avoid
- Too much time between sessions (interruption of cellular effects)
- Workouts that are too short (not long enough to stimulate ATP production)
- Giving up too soon: hair takes time to grow
- Poor conditions (sessions with unwashed hair or hair products that interfere with the test)
Monitoring and adjustment
- Take an initial photo (scalp, hair), then one every month
- Use a dermoscope or trichoscope to measure thickness
- Adjust the schedule based on other treatments (PRP, minoxidil)
- If in doubt, consult a specialist in hair loss
Special cases
Post-hair transplant
- Start 10–15 days after the procedure (after initial healing)
- Reduced doses for the first 2–3 weeks
- Follow the standard protocol for at least 6 months
In conjunction with medical treatment
- + Minoxidil: Using them together improves effectiveness (PBM in the morning, minoxidil in the evening)
- + PRP or mesotherapy: 48 hours of rest before PBM, followed by the usual treatment
- + Finasteride: no contraindications, additional effect
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip sessions?
No, that significantly reduces effectiveness. The cells "forget" previous stimulation after 2–3 days of inactivity.
How long before stopping treatment?
If the results are positive, switch to twice-weekly maintenance for the rest of your life. If you stop completely, your progress will gradually decline (over 3–6 months).
Does it work on gray hair?
PBM stimulates hair growth, not pigmentation. However, improved blood circulation in the scalp may indirectly help (see studies on melanin restoration under reduced stress).
