What Literature Has Yet to Show

The results above stem primarily from localized photobiomodulation—often using lasers—applied before exercise. A 2025 systematic review focusing on whole-body PBM (5 studies, 105 active participants) found no measurable benefits on performance or fatigue markers; two studies reported improved sleep quality (Álvarez-Martínez, Lasers Med Sci). Regarding maximum strength, two recent meta-analyses yielded negative results, both in athletes and in older adults.

Questions Asked by Physical Therapists

Does whole-body photobiomodulation have a place in a physical therapy practice?

As a complementary tool, yes: recovery after exercise, preparation before a workout, and relief for patients with chronic pain. The chamber is not a substitute for manual therapy or exercise, and meta-analyses do not support an increase in maximum strength.

Is a practitioner needed during the session?

No. The 25-minute session is conducted independently, without physical contact or adjustments. The patient is informed before the first session, and the practitioner remains available to treat other patients.

When should the session be scheduled: before or after active rehabilitation?

Meta-analyses show that the most consistent effects on muscle soreness and markers of muscle damage occur when light is applied before exercise. These findings are primarily based on localized PBM; the exact protocol is determined in consultation with our experts.

Is the Body Boost Bed a medical device?

Yes, it is a Class IIa medical device with CE marking. It does not emit UV light. It can be used by children ages 7 and up, subject to the contraindications detailed in our FAQs.

What is the actual level of evidence?

Solid results for certain recovery markers in localized PBM prior to exercise, mixed results for musculoskeletal disorders, and still limited data on the whole-body chamber itself. We publish both negative and positive studies on our Publications page.
